Description

'3811 nautical miles' is the distance from London to Calgary, Canada. Having made this trip numerous times over the past 12 months, I have had the opportunity to witness the serene, yet raw, beauty of the ice caps in this flight path. The severe but almost meditative quality of this landscape drew many parallels with the music I am currently writing, with my strong desire to explore stasis alongside extreme register, distorted and raw instrumental colour. Although this work is not inspired by the landscape, the title is an acknowledgement of the similarity between this image and my desires and interests as a composer.
